7:00pm [7:30pm] Radical Readings: Blasted
Description:
Taboo Theatre presents Radical Readings, a series of staged readings of controversial or radical material. Our innagural play? Blasted, by Sarah Kane. On its premiere in 1995, critics derided Blasted as "immature," and as a shock piece. After Kane's death in 1999, one critic said "How shrill and silly the 1995 hullabaloo and hysteria seemed last night when Blasted returned to the Royal Court. It is, and always was, a play with a fine, moral purpose." What place does shock theatre have today? What does it mean to be shocking? How is and isn't this play relevant to a modern audience? How can morality be derived from horror? A talk back will take place after the show to discuss this and more. Cw: sexual violence, violence against children PWYW Interested in reading?
